Deacon William Higgins, Sr., “Lil Daddy”, 90, husband of Betty J. Higgins, entered into eternal rest on May 27, 2026.
He was born on July 19, 1935, in Greenwood, SC, a son of the late Albert Higgins and Mozelle Thompkins Higgins.
He attended Greenwood Public Schools and graduated from Brewer High School Class of 1955.
He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 40 years.
He served in several ministries to include the Deacon Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Missionary Society and Pulpit Aide Club.
He was first employed at Brewer Hospital as an Orderly and was a member of Harmony Lodge for many years.
After being licensed as an Insurance Agent, he worked with North Carolina Mutual where he received salesman of the month numerous times and later became an agent with Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Company. In his later years, he worked for NHC Healthcare as a patient Assistant.
He also worked with Adams Pest Control, McDonalds, Greenwood Mills and lastly Chalmers Plant.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Higgins and Ella Hill and a beloved god daughter, Andell Quattlebaum.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Betty Emery Higgins, of the home; a son, William Higgins, Jr.; three granddaughters, Lavondra Sussewell of Greenwood, SC, Tenicia Walton of Atlanta, GA and Hannah Higgins Mace of Atlanta, GA; a grandson, Travis Reid, of Greenwood, SC; three great-grandchildren, Nydasha Sussewell of Greenwood, SC, Brianna Walton and Braylon Walton, both of Greenwood, SC; a devoted niece, Karla Rodney, of Washington, DC; cousins who were more like sisters, Mildred Quarles, Archie Grier and Gloria Campbell, all of Greenwood, SC; a sister in law, Dorothy Norman; two lifelong friends, Frank Scott and Henry Cowan of Greenwood, SC; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Homegoing services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Quincy Baylor Officiating and assisted by Rev. Leroy Robertson.
Deacon Higgins will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Public viewing will be held from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the Funeral Home.
