Tommie Cena Robinson, age 83, of 5832 Highway 25 North in Hodges, departed this life on September 17, 2025, at her home.
Tommie was born April 17, 1942, to the union of the late Tom F. Robinson and the late Isabell Anderson Robinson. At a very young age she joined the Good Hope Baptist Church in Hodges, South Carolina where she was a devoted member. She served as founder and director of the youth choir, church clerk, a member of the Senior Missionary Ministry, founder of the Women of Faith Ministry and a spiritual mother to many of the youth who grew up in Good Hope Baptist Church.
She was the first African American in 1965 to be employed with what was then the Greenwood District of the Social Security Administration. In May 1975, she was featured in Ebony Magazine as a bachelorette beauty, making her the first in the southeastern region of the United States to receive such recognition.
Tommie was preceded in death by her mother and father; sister, Muzurious Ida Coleman, and brother Duvonia “Dan” Robinson.
She leaves to cherish her memory a sister Donnie Perkins of Hodges SC, a devoted nephew reared in the home Lark A. Coleman of Hodges, SC; four devoted nieces April Perkins of Simpsonville SC reared in the home, Roxie Renee Coleman of Hodges SC, Yoshunda (Carlos) Sullivan of Simpsonville, SC and Aretha (Lee) Charles of Greenwood, SC; sister-in-law Mamie Robinson, of Hodges, SC; special cousin Eva Talbert of Hodges, SC; Adopted niece and nephew Jimmie (Elease) Workman of Greenwood, SC; special care giver Ruby Keller of Ware Shoals, SC; and her bestie since childhood Willie Lee (Reverend James) Splawn of Spartanburg, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews, great- nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Good Hope Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Ms. Robinson will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour on Saturday at the Church.
Public viewing will be held from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home.
