Tarnya B. Smith, of 213 Morgan Ave., passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at her home. She was affectionaly known as "Red." She was born in Washington D.C. on May 27th, 1955, a daughter of the late James "POP" Deal and Beatrice Deal. She was a member of Mount Zion A.M.E Church in Promised Land and was formally employed at Velux.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, George "Junnie" Deal and James "Dunk" Deal; and her brother-in-laws, Dean Coe and James Rodgers.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Rev. Michael Quincey Smith, Sr.; one son, Carlton Vernon Wright Jr. (Nicole); four grandchildren: Ciarra Farmer (Jeffery), Kamerin "Kam" Hughes, Tavon McKenzie, and Brittany Wright; two great-grandchildren, Jamere Johnson and Kasyn Wright; mother-in-law, Margaret Smith; three siblings: Alice Mae Coe of Baltimore, MD, Sheila Rogers of Washington, D.C., and Cassandra Morton (James) of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister/cousin, Vickie Moon of Detroit, MI; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Mount Zion A.M.E Church in Promised Land with the Reverend James Louden, III officiating. Mrs. Smith will be placed in the church at 10:00 a.m. Public viewing will be from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024, in the Percival-Tompkins Chapel. The family is at the home.
