Sarah Thomas beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2024, at the age of 77. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.
Born on May 9, 1946, in Greenwood, SC, Sarah Thomas was a vibrant soul known for her warm smile and dedication to family, friends and community. Her dedication was demonstrated through her service as a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served as Deaconess President and as a Deaconess. She also shared her gift of voice as a member of the Mt. Zion Mass Choir. As the wife of a Black Cat MC organization member, she performed community service while also working independently as a beautician.
Sarah Thomas was the devoted wife of Deacon Bennie Lee Thomas for 59 years. She was a loving mother to three daughters. The daughters include: Angela Gaines (Tony) of Greenville, SC; Dr. Benita Pope (Lee) of Hillsborough, NC; and Natasha Witt (Clement) of Mebane, NC. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 3 godchildren.
In addition to her roles as a mother and grandmother, Sarah Thomas was a loyal sister to Patricia Greene (Henry) of West Columbia, SC and Marcella Strong of Greenwood, SC. There is also a host of other relatives and friends who loved and will miss her dearly.
Public viewing will be held in the Percival-Tompkins Chapel on Sunday, May 12, 2024, starting at 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm. A celebration of Sarah Thomas' life will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 11:00 am at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Coronaca, SC with Reverend Jackie Aiken officiating. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring her memory. Burial will follow in Evening Star Cemetery. The family is at the home, 101 Hickory Lane.
