Ms. Sadie Ballard Luster, 94, entered eternal rest on June 24, 2024, at Self Regional Medical Center. She was born in Greenwood County on August 14, 1929, the daughter of the late Morris Ballard, Sr and Leila Chappell Ballard.
She was a graduate Brewer High School Class of 1946 and graduate of South Carolina State College (presently South Carolina State University) in 1950. She loved children and taught in the Ware Shoals School District and also Greenwood School District 50 where she retired after 37 years of service. She was a faithful member of Mt. Pisgah AME Church and Weston Chapel AME Church where she served in several ministries. She was a member of the Church Choir, Women’s Missionary Society, Sunday School Teacher and former Superintendent of the Sunday School. She was also a part of the Willing Workers Ministry and member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Irma B. Brown and Shirley B. Oliver.
She is survived by: one brother, Morris Ballard Jr, of Hodges, SC; a sister, Barbara B. Gunner of San Diego, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to cherish her memory.
Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Weston Chapel AME Church with Rev. John Paul Pastor and Presiding and Rev. Willie Neal Norman officiating. Burial will follow in the Evening Star Cemetery. Ms. Luster will be placed in the church at 2:00 pm. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Friday, June 28, 2024, in the Percival-Tompkins Chapel. The family is at their respective homes.
