Lillie T Tolbert

Lillie T. Walker Tolbert was born June 9, 1937, to the late Reverend Ben Walker and Lillie Maude Williams.  She departed this life on February 2, 2023.  Lillie was a kind and humble woman who always saw the silver lining in every situation. Her favorite saying was “life is what you make it” a nod to the way she lived her life.  Lillie was grateful to God for all the things and people she had in her life, instead of focusing on what she didn’t have.  Even after her cancer diagnosis, she was bold in the profession of her Christian faith and focused on the 85 years of healthy life that God had given her.

Lillie graduated from Brewer High School in 1955.  She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Benedict College in 1959.  She did additional studies at Lander College.  Lillie retired as a teacher from Greenwood School District 50.

Lillie loved to sing and was blessed with a beautiful Soprano voice.  She was a member of Brewer High School Chorus, Benedict College Concert Choir, Morris Chapel Baptist Church Choir and Martin Luther King Choir. She was baptized at an early age at Morris Chapel Baptist Church and later became a member of the Walker Chapel Baptist Church. 

Lillie was a member of Brewer Alumni Association, Benedict College Alumni Club, Gardenia Garden Club, Widow and Widowers Club of Morris Chapel and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Lillie was preceded in death by Leroy Tolbert, her husband of 52 years.  She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Cyrus (Latricia) Tolbert, Crystal (Paul) Tolbert Lasseur, Andre (Gina) Tolbert, Benjamin (Nythea) Tolbert, two sisters, Doretha Walker Thompson, Eula Belle (Morris) Carroll, a devoted grandniece who helped with her care, Brandy Michael, twelve grandchildren, a dear friend and classmate, Frank Scott, a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Morris Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Evening Star Cemetery. The family is at the home. Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home which is honored to serve the Tolbert family.
