John "Johnny" Robert Payne

John Robert "Johnny" Payne, 84, of 256 Wisewood Circle, entered eternal rest on April 8, 2024, at Laurens County Hospital. He was born in Greenwood County on August 17, 1939, a son of the late Clifton Collins and Rosetta Payne. He was a member of Second Damascus Baptist Church and retired Logger.

He was preceded in death by: his siblings: Shirley Nance, Sennie Thomas, Wilhelmenia Brown, Charlie Mae Higgins, Rosa Lee Payne Marshall, Julian and Cleveland Payne

Surviving are: five sons: Charlie Moss (Queenie), John Moss, Tommy Moss, Michael Moss all of Greenwood and Robert Brooks (Diana) of Scottsdale, AZ; three daughters: Linda Moss Gilchrist of Orangeburg, SC, Phyllis Brooks of Charlotte, NC and Donna Brooks of Greenville, SC; two children reared in the home, Sherry Oliver (Anthony) and Stanley Brooks (Angela) of Greenwood; three sisters: JoAnn Freeman, Ellen Quarles and Brenda Payne all of Greenwood; a special cousin, Julia Carter; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a special caregiver, Carolyn Elijah; and a host of other relatives and friends to cherish his memory.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on  Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Second Damascus Baptist Church with Rev. Leroy Robertson officiating. Mr. Payne will be placed in the church at 11:00 am.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Monday, April 15, 2024, in the Percival-Tompkins Chapel.

The family is at the home of a sister, JoAnn Freeman, located at 121 Myrtle Street, Greenwood, SC 29646.
