John Bell Abney, Sr aka “JB” of 1209 Brickyard Road, Ninety-Six, SC widow of Frances W. Abney entered into eternal rest on July 1, 2024.
He was born in Greenwood County July 7, 1941 a son of the late Sam Abney and Sophia Stewart Abney.
He was a hardworking man who believed in taking care of his family. He was a man of many words and lots of wisdom. John loved to be around family and friends. He was well known throughout the community and had a multitude of hobbies which included fishing and carpentry. He loved driving trucks was the epitome of an accomplished Truck Driver. He drove for over 40 years until his retirement having owned his own Trucking Company.
He is survived by: six sons: Michael (Faye) Williams, Anthony (Priscilla) Williams, John (Ethel) Abney), Sam (Stacy) Abney, Rev. Mark (Tina) Abney and Dwntraquis Campbell; one devoted daughter, Minister April (Bobby) Sibert; three sisters: Carolyn Abney, Mary Alice Hailey and Demetist Lindsey; one son-in-law, Eugene Washington; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Ann Williams; 24 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; his son, Anthony Williams; a daughter, Sophia Washington; three sisters: Mamie Julia Moore, Samella Graham, and JoAnn Martin; six brothers: Manor Abney, Billy Abney, Robert Johnson, William Abney, Charlie Abney, Anthony Williams; and a grandson, Eugene “Man” Washington, Jr.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 7, 2024, in the Percival Tompkins Chapel with Rev. Nickolas Spearman officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Saturday, July 6, 2024, in the Percival-Tompkins Chapel. Online condolences may be shared on his tribute page at www.percivaltompkins.com.
