February 20, 1933 – Promoted to Glory June 25, 2026
John Herbert Riley, entered eternal rest on June 25, 2026, passing peacefully under hospice care, surrounded by the comfort of God's love.
John lived in New York before making South Carolina his home. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for five years during the Korean War era.
Following his military service, John became a licensed barber in South Carolina, where he served his community through his profession. Known to many as "Pops".
John was a man of faith. We find comfort in knowing that he has gone home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, where there is no more sorrow, no more crying, and no more pain.
John also had a lifelong appreciation for jazz music. He played the saxophone and found great joy in its rich, expressive sound. He enjoyed listening to Miles Davis and other jazz greats, finding in their music moments of peace, inspiration, and reflection.
John was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Donna. Though her passing brought great sorrow, they are now reunited in eternal peace.
He will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
Psalm 23
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."
May his soul rest in eternal peace in God's loving presence.
