Howard Higgins, 88, widower of Leila Mae Davis Higgins, entered into eternal rest on December 27, 2022, at Self Regional Healthcare. He was born in Edgefield, SC, a son of the late Smith Higgins and Lillie Holmes Higgins on June 22, 1934.
He was a faithful member of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church (Edgefield, SC) where he served as a deacon. He was formerly employed as a supervisor with the Greenwood Highway Department.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Henry J Carroll; a son-in-law, David Calhoun; and his siblings: Lona Bell Williams, Willie Mae Holmes, Sallie Holden and Frances Coates.
He leaves to cherish his memories five daughters: Susan Higgins of Greenwood, SC, Lona Calhoun of Hodges, SC, Donna (John) Moss of Callison, SC, Henritta Higgins of Ninety-Six, SC and Hazel (Furman) Greene; two brothers: Heyward Higgins of Ninety-Six, SC and George Higgins of Greenwood, SC; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church (Edgefield, SC) with Rev. Rhoderick Cummings officiating and Rev. Craig Myers presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Public viewing will be from 1 pm to 5 pm on Monday, January 2, 2023, in the Percival-Tompkins Chapel. The family is at the home of his daughter, Susan Higgins, located at 135 Kathwood Drive, Greenwood, SC, 29649.
