Georgia Belle Williams Hawkins, the eldest daughter of the late John C and Rose Oliver Williams, was born on August 21, 1940, in Mt. Carmel, SC. She departed this life on July 4, 2024.
Georgia was raised and lived her formative years in Greenwood, SC, At an early age she became a member of the Springfield Baptist Church thereby establishing a long and fruitful relationship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
She was educated in the Greenwood, SC school system and at 17 years old she graduated from Brewer High School, "Class of 1957", only a few short months later she moved to Washington, DC. She attended the prestigious Cortez Peters Business School, which was the first Black owned business and vocational institute to fully pre- pare African Americans for business and civil service. She continued to reside in Washington, DC and in 1959, she met Jesse E Hawkins, Sr, and after a short courtship they were married. After the birth of their son Jesse E Hawkins, Jr, the family moved to Trenton, NJ and in 1965 purchased their home in Ewing, NJ.
Georgia was employed by the State of New Jersey and after 30 faithful years of service she retired. In her leisure she enjoyed bus trips to the casinos. A coin and a scratch off would garnish a
beautiful smile. A trip to the doctor or some other distant errand was most times followed by lunch at Red Lobster and great conversation. She often spoke about her conversations and excursions with her dear friend Nellie. Georgia's interest in geography drew her to the love of globes, and perhaps being a dedicated poll worker is what tweaked her political savvy. She was kind, generous, and compassionate ... She was and is beautifully and wonderfully made.
Preceded in death by her parents, John C Williams and Rose Oliver Williams; her husband Jesse E. Hawkins, Sr.; her brother John C Williams, Jr and a close cousin and traveling buddy Sarah Rollins
