Franklin D.R. Tolbert, Sr., 82, of 1006 Jefferson Street, husband of Lucy Smith-Tolbert, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at his home. Born in Greenwood County he was the son of the late John Henry Tolbert, Sr., and the late Gertrude Hackett Tolbert.
Frank (as he was called) was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board and a member of the Men Adult Sunday School Class. Frank was formerly an automotive mechanic; he retired from manufacturing as an employee of Sara Lee Corporation.
He was preceded in death by four brothers John H. Tolbert, Jr., Glasco Tolbert, Willie B. Tolbert, and The Reverend Claude H. Tolbert, Sr., two sisters, Emily T. Dean, and Shirley T. Wright, agoddaughter, Treasure Perrin.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 42 years, Lucy Smith-Tolbert of the home. Two sons, Franklin (Tenesha) Tolbert, Jr., of Pearland, TX, Gregory (Lisa) Tolbert, Greenwood, SC: two daughters, Rori T. (Keith) Ashwood, of Charlotte, NC, Kimora T. (Michael) Herring, of Charlotte, NC, one sister, Wynetta Parks, Charleston, SC, three brothers-in-law, seven sisters-in-laws, ten grandchildren,eight great grandchildren, dedicated nieces andnephews, and other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Tolbert will lie in state at the Church on Monday from Noon until the service hour.
Public viewing will be held from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the funeral home.
