Mr. Ezzard “Charles” Roundtree, Sr., 72, of 601 Perrin Street, Greenwood, South Carolina, slipped away peacefully into eternal rest on March 26, 2024. Born in Kirksey, SC he was the son of the Late Carroll Roundtree Sr. and the Late Versie Rosetta C. Roundtree. He was a member of Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Charles was a veteran of the United States Army (honorable discharge) and the Greenwood National Guard Armory. He retired from the Greenwood Packing Plant. He was a 1970 graduate of Brewer High School.
Charles had a love for old school music, watching TV and protecting his peace. The family will always remember his distinct laugh.
Charles was preceded in death by: his parents; his sister, Madelyn Moss; and his brother, Carroll Roundtree Jr.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his devoted sister, Dorothy J. Moss of Ninety-Six, SC; two sons, Jermaine D. Davis and Ezzard Roundtree, Jr. both of Greenwood, SC; two daughters, Sanquetta Y. Carter and Versie Y. Roundtree both of Greenwood, SC; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson of Greenwood, SC; one brother-in-law, Willie Robert Moss Sr. of Troy, SC; one sister-in-law, Annie Marie Roundtree of Troy, SC; one aunt, Mattie Lou Lights (Johnny) of Greenwood, SC; one uncle, Heyward Higgins of Kirksey, SC; and many other relatives and friends.
Special thanks to his primary caregivers: his sister, Dorothy; his daughter, Versie; and a very special nephew and niece, Rickey and Thomasena Saxon.
Graveside services will be held at Noon on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Shirley Kinard presiding and Rev. James Moss officiating. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Sunday, March 31, 2024, in the Percival-Tompkins Chapel. The family is at the home of his sister, Dorothy, located at 202 Timothy Lane, Ninety Six, SC 29666.
