Essie Mae Brown was born December 6, 1949, to the late Addison and Lola Gilbert. She entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Self Regional Healthcare.
Essie was a graduate of Brewer High School Class of 1968 in Greenwood, SC. She continued her education where she received a certificate in office management. She was employed for a short time with Capsugel and JCPenny, but devoted most of her life as a homemaker.
Essie married Robert L. Brown on December 24, 1972. This union brought about Cherese, Michelle, Gregory and Michael. She not only loved being a mom, but she was elated when she found out she was going to be a grandma! She now has ten grandchildren.
Essie committed her life to the Lord Jesus Christ over 40 years ago. She served faithfully at Holy Tabernacle (formerly "Refuge Temple"). She served in many positions, such as, Missionary, Pastors' Aide, and Kitchen Committee to name a few.
Other than her parents, Essie was preceded in death by two brothers, James Gilbert and Charles Scott, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories: her husband, Bishop Robert Brown; two daughters Cherese Brown and Michelle (Charlie) Grimes; two sons, Gregory (Tynisha) Brown; two sisters, JoAnn (Moses) Lee and Connie Johnson; ten grandchildren: Charleston Grimes, Caelan Grimes, Chikobe Grimes, Gregory Brown, Jr., Journi Brown, Elijah Brown, Rylie Brown, Raeya Brown and Ragen Brown; and a host of family, church family, and friends whom will love her forever.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Holy Tabernacle. Mrs. Brown will be placed in the church at Noon. The family is at the home.
Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is honored to serve the Brown family.
