Elester "Les" Holloway

Elester “Les” Holloway, age 73, peacefully transitioned from labor to rest on Monday, October 24, 2022, at the Saluda Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on December 26, 1948, in Greenwood, the second son of the late Macfield Holloway, Sr. and Irene Williams Holloway. 

He was a graduate of Brewer High School, class of 1967. Les served in the US Army from 1967 to 1970 where he became an expert rifle and sharpshooter. As a Vietnam Veteran, he was awarded 2 Vietnam Service Bronze stars, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, along with the National Defense Service and Good Conduct (1st Award) Medals.

Les worked many years for the Charlotte Observer Newspaper until retirement. Thereafter, Les returned to Greenwood and became a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was able to utilize his true talent of cooking in the food ministry.

In addition to his parents, Les was preceded in death by his sister Willie Merle Holloway. In love, Les leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved daughter Leslie (Dwayne) Mathews of Garner, North Carolina; and son Drew (Jaqi) Holloway of Austin, TX; two sisters Jacquelyn H. Williams of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Pamela (Michael Terry) Holloway of Greenwood, South Carolina; 3 brothers, Macfield (Carolyn) Holloway, Jr. of Taylors, South Carolina; Clinton (Betty) Holloway of Greenwood, South Carolina; and Phillip Kelly of Greenwood, South Carolina;  a grandson Braylon Phillips of Charlotte, North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and other relatives, and friends.

Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Greenwood Memorial Mausoleum. Public viewing will be held from 2-5 pm Friday, October 28, 2022 at Percival Tompkins Funeral Home and Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 10:30 until 11:00 am at Greenwood Memorial Mausoleum.
