Eleanor Holmes Obituary

Eleanor Holmes, widow of William Holmes Jr., was born October 10, 1945, to the parentage of the late Isaiah Younger Sr. and Florence Moorer in New York, NY. After being blessed with 74 years in this earthly life, God called her home on July 19, 2020, at Self Regional Hospital.

Eleanor was a devoted member of the Youth Crusade Evangelistic Center where she served on the Mother Board, as Deaconess, the Usher Board, and the choir. Prior to retiring from Self Regional Hospital in 2007, she served as the Dietary Supervisor where she developed her passion for cake baking. She was also a former member of the Golden Girls Club and the R.L. Stevens Senior Citizens Club. Her sweet and compassionate spirit will be dearly missed, but her labor of love and passion for serving others will continue to live on.

Eleanor was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Nicholson; a sister, Dorthea Roman; a brother, Isaiah Younger Jr.; and two god-mothers, Eula Mae Thomas and Earnestine Smarr.

Eleanor was a faithful wife, mother, and grandmother that loved her family dearly. She leaves behind to inherit the blessings of her faithfulness; two daughters, her caretaker Tammy Sussewell of the home, Shirley (Charles) Spearman of Douglasville, GA; a son, Jackie (Paula) Brown of Greenwood, SC; two sisters, Anita Younger of Charlotte, NC and Margaret Johnson of Manhattan, NY; 11 grandchildren, 5 reared in the home, Lavondra Sussewell, Deandrea Sussewell, Darico Sussewell, all of Greenwood, SC, Demetrius New, Torey Brown and Timothy Brown of Greenville, SC, Wendy Brown of Marietta, GA, and Shanequa Bowman of Myrtle Beach, SC; 39 great-grandchildren, 5 reared in the home, Siaye Floyd, Tydarius Floyd, Nydasha Sussewell, Jitwan Floyd, and Breosche Floyd all of Greenwood, SC; two devoted god-granddaughters, Pamela Moss-Ashford and Shakima Houston; 10 step-children; 6 sister-in-laws; special friends Bettye Palmore, Lola Williams and Mary Moss; and a host of other relatives and friends to whom her faithfulness graced.
