Effie Chiles Spearman, 96, widow of John L. Spearman, Sr., entered eternal rest and peace on May 22, 2026, at Hospice and Palliative Care of Greenwood. She was born in McCormick County on May 9, 1930, a daughter of Leroy and Lois Parker Chiles.
She was a faithful and dedicated member of Allen Chapel AME Church.
Effie was not a fan of noting her accolades but to “Let the Work She did Speak for Her.”
Surviving are a son, John Lynn Spearman, of the home; a daughter, Michele (Glenn) Payne, of Greenwood; her one and only granddaughter, Irisha A. Payne; two great-grandchildren, Austin J. Payne and Kaylin Payne Holloway; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Allen Chapel AME with Pastor Julius D. Crawford officiating.
Interment will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Mrs. Spearman will lie in state at Allen Chapel AME Church on Tuesday from Noon until 1 PM
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 25, 2026, from 4 PM until 5 PM at the Funeral Home.
The family ask that flowers be omitted and to make your donation to Hospice Care of the Piedmont in memory of Effie C. Spearman.
