Bennie Lee Thomas, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, at the age of 82. Bennie leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Born on April 7, 1944, in Greenwood, South Carolina, Bennie Thomas was a vibrant soul known for a warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to family, friends, and community. Faith played a central role in Bennie’s life, as demonstrated through devoted service at Mount Zion Baptist Church, where Bennie faithfully served as a deacon, usher, and member of the male choir.
Bennie was also deeply committed to fellowship and service beyond the church. He was a proud 52-year member of the Black Cat Motorcycle Organization.
Bennie Thomas shared 59 years of marriage with the late Sarah Thomas, a union built on love and devotion. Bennie was a loving and devoted parent to three daughters: Angela Gaines (Tony) of Greenville, South Carolina; Dr. Benita Pope (Lee) of Hillsborough, North Carolina; and Natasha Witt (Clement) of Melbane, North Carolina. Bennie is also survived by six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and three godchildren.
In addition to being a devoted parent and grandparent, Bennie was a loyal and caring sibling. Bennie is survived by siblings: Betty Duncan of Petaluma, California; Mary Morgan of Columbia, South Carolina; Willie Thomas of Due West, South Carolina; Linda Thomas of Greenville, South Carolina; and Jacqueline Aiken of Greenwood, South Carolina.
Homegoing services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Thomas Yeargin officiating.
Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Black Cats Motorcycle Club.
Deacon Thomas will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Church on Saturday.
Public viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026 at the Funeral Home.
