Mrs. Clara Anderson Dendy, 99, entered in eternal rest and transitioned from Labor to Reward on Monday, March 30, 2026, at NHC Healthcare Greenwood.
She was was born in Waterloo, SC on June 25, 1926, the daughter of the late Mr. John Anderson and Annie Coleman Anderson.
She was married to the late Henry Dendy and they resided in Greenwood, SC.
Clara attended the Community School in Waterloo, SC and joined Smyrna African Methodist Church at a young age, where she served as a faithful member until her health declined.
Clara was a member of Martha Chapter No. 229-B, Order of the Eastern Star for many years.
Clara retired from Greenwood High School as a Cook with more that 36 years of service.
She also cooked during the Summer Camp Fellowship of Cross Hill, SC for over 50 years and also First Presbyterian Church. Her love for cooking was her mission in life.
Clara leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Barbara Gilchrist (Tim) of Greenwood, SC, Linda Lomax (John) of Goldsboro, NC; five sons, John Dendy (Gloria) of Ninety-Six, SC, William Dendy of Laurens, SC, Sandy Dendy (Ernestine) of Greenwood, SC, Rudolph Dendy of the home, and Randolph Dendy (Sheila) of Waterloo, SC; 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sadie Stoddard of Waterloo, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at Noon on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Smyrna AME Church in Waterloo, SC with Rev. Deidrick Smith, Pastor, presiding and Rev. Barry Leverette officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Public viewing will be from 1:00 pm until 6:0 pm on Friday, April 3, 2026, at the Funeral Home. Mrs. Dendy will lie in state from 11:00 am until Noon on Saturday at the Church.
