Charles Douglas Foggie 87, of Greenwood, SC passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025 at the Laurens County Hospice House after a battle with cancer.
Charles was born on April 18, 1937 a son of Charlie and Ruth Foggie in Brooklyn, NY.
He is a 1955 graduate of Brewer High School, Greenwood, SC.
After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was an Aviation Electrician Mate, responsible for repairing electrical and electronic systems on carrier aircraft. He served his country honorably for 20 years and retired in 1975.
During his Navy career he had tours of duty at several based including Naval Sation, Norfolk, VA; Royal Air Force West, Ruislip, England; Naval Air Station, Atlanta, GA; and Belle Chase Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, New Orleans, LA.
After retiring from the Navy, he worked for Sears Roebuck & Company and Union Carbide. He retired from Union Carbide after 20+ years of service.
He also was an avid golfer and played many years with the Greenwood Scrambler’s.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; Charlie and Ruth Foggie; a sister, Hester Williams; a daughter, Yvonne Foggie and wife, Doris Foggie.
He is survived by daughters, Sharon Foggie, Greenwood, SC, Yvette Booker, Charlotte, NC, Soyna Foggie, Harrisburg, VA; sons, Victor (Shirl) Foggie, Pheonix, AZ and Sidney Foggie, Hampton VA.
He is also survived by one sister, Betty Foggie, Columbia, SC and a brother, Bobby (Martha Jean) Foggie, Greenwood, SC.
He leaves several loving grandchildren, cousins and countless friends to cherish his memory.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Laurel Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Linda Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Foggie will be lying in state from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Laurel Hill Baptist Church.
Public viewing will be held from 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the funeral home.
