Pastor Bobby James Chiles, Sr., 75, husband of Roselle Morton Chiles of 301 Whitehall Rd., Greenwood, SC departed this life on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the Lexington Community Hospice Center, Lexington, SC.
He was born to the late Margaret Wright, John W. Wright, and James Chiles of Troy, SC on September 21, 1947. He was a graduate of Mims High School McCormick, SC. He was formerly employed and retired from Monsanto, Inc. Pastor Chiles was the founder and pastor of the Youth Crusade Evangelistic Center in the Promisedland Community for 44 years.
He leaves to cherish his most precious memories in addition to his wife of the home, his two children, Vanessa Renna Jamison of Portland, Oregon and Bobby James Chiles, Jr., of Columbia, SC. He has one grandson, Keith Jamison of Atlanta, Georgia. He has one brother, Pastor Carl Chiles (Sarah Chiles) of Savannah Lakes.
He was pre-deceased by his mother, Margaret Wright, father, John W, Wright, and James Chiles of Troy, SC. Also, his brothers Johnny Robinson (Ruth Bell Chiles) Troy, SC, and Elijah Chiles (Isabelle Chiles) of New Brunswick, New Jersey. He leaves to cherish his memories four sister in laws, Carrie Simpkins, Geraldine Miller (Rev. Moses Miller), Minister Shirley Johnson, Rev. Alice Gaskin (Rev. Anthony L. Gaskin) and three brother in laws, Milledge Morton (Barbara Morton), Wilbert Morton (Stephanie Morton) of Greenwood, SC and Charles F. Morton (Mary Morton) of Portland, Oregon. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces, nephews, and church family who adored their uncle Bobby and pastor.
Services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 12:00 noon at the Plead Center with Pastor Ronnie Williams officiating. The body will be placed in the Plead Center at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the sanctuary at the Youth Crusade Evangelistic Center on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 2:30 pm until 6:00 pm for public viewing. The family is at the home, 301 Whitehall Rd where they will receive friends daily from 5 - 8 pm. Percival-Tompkins Funeral Home is honored to serve the Chiles family.
