Arthur Lipford, born on March 10, 1951, in Hodges, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024, at Pruitt Nursing Facility in Albany, Georgia. Born to the late Lafayette "Fate" Lipford and the late Ida Lue Rearden-Lipford, He was the 8th of 9 children. At an early age Arthur attended public school in South Carolina before moving to New York City. He graduated with honors from Morris High School, Bronx, New York. He excelled as a standout baseball player and MVP, and even tried out for the former Brooklyn Dodgers Professional Baseball team. Arthur pursued his education further at Bronx Community College, majoring in Math and Spanish, and later studied Modeling and Theater Arts at Barbizon Modeling School in Manhattan. He had a passion for crossword puzzles and Sudoku. He was an avid chess player and competed in local chess tournaments. He was a sports enthusiast and preferred listening to sports and sports commentary on the radio over watching them on television. Arthur dedicated many of his vocational years as a recreation therapist at Manhattan Psychiatric Center on Wards Island in New York, later as a security officer at St. Vincent Hospital in New York, where he eventually retired. In his later years, he returned to South Carolina and then settled in Georgia. Arthur's life was marked by his dedication to helping others and his love for intellectual pursuits. He will be remembered for his kindness, passion for learning, and unwavering spirit. He was preceded in death by his brothers James Andrew, Curtis, and John, and his sisters Louise and Dorothy. He is survived by his three sisters, Reverend Ida Mae Shipman of Greenwood, South Carolina, Ruby (Larry) Phillips of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Diane Strawter of Leary, Georgia, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and those who loved him dearly.
