Sister Alberta Johnson Lee took flight to her eternal reward on April 28, 2024. She was born on October 03, 1936, to the late Richard and Essie Johnson. Sister Lee was a warm and gentle spirit, full of wisdom and grace. However, she was never a pushover, wise as a serpent but harmless as a dove. Sis. Alberta graduated from Brewer High School in 1956 and received an associated degree from Piedmont Technical College. She was employed in District 52 at Edgewood Middle School for 30 years as the school secretary. She was a strong and faithful woman of God who was an active member of Mars Hill Baptist Church up until her recent illness and passing. Sis. Alberta was a loving wife to the late Landon Lee and mother of four beautiful children, of whom she dedicated her life to their success and wellbeing. She was a member of the Lee Family Gospel Singers and was the glue that held the group together. She was very active in the community throughout her life. She was a former member of the East End Bible Class and the Dianthus Garden Club. She was a current member of the Brewer High School Alumni Association and the Little River Baptist Association Senior Citizens group.
Sis. Alberta did not just raise up a group of great singers but, along with Deacon Lee, raised up great Christians and great people. She was a loving and dedicated family woman who did not limit her love and compassion to her family alone. Sis. Alberta and Deacon Lee were known for their commitment to sharing their love with people in the community. They would pick up other children and families to take to church. They took their own children to sing in nursing homes, and the local jails. She did everything with dignity and grace, and with a smile on her face.
Sis. Alberta Lee was preceded in death by: her husband, Deacon Landon Lee; one stepdaughter, Brenda Webb (Edsel); and 11 siblings. She was the last of 12 siblings that includes: James Johnson (Floree), Octavia Dennis (Joseph), William Johnson (Ruby), David Johnson (Martha), Eula Mae Aiken (William), Bennie Johnson (Ruby), Sallie Pearl Williams (Loyal), Maggie Holmes (Gradie), Josie Robinson (Rudolph), Joseph Johnson (Barbara), and Floyd Johnson (Betty).
She was survived by: one son, Landon Barrett Lee (Tanita); three daughters: Dee Lee Elder (Anthony), Kimery Ann McNease (Stanley), and Evetta Denise Partlow (Leonard); one stepson, Bobby Campbell (Joyce); four sisters-in-law: Louise Foster, Carrie Mae Smith, Rosa Lee Anderson, and Mamie Anderson Garrett; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Sister Alberta Johnson Lee was the epitome of Christian love as expressed in I Cor. 13:4-8a:
(4) Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not [b]puffed up; (5) does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, [c]thinks no evil; (6) does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; (7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (8) Love never fails….
